about

Ibadan Records launches itself into the New Year with finesse. The No Shade EP exacts upon the open-mindedness of Ibadan Records bringing together the talents of Berlin based Sylvie Forêt and Aschka in this deep collectible.

New Yorker Sylvie Forêt, a regular feature behind the decks at Berlin underground hot spots, opens the gates with her debut release with fellow conspirator Jerome Sydenham on Ibadan Records. “No Shade”, is a deep house piece in the true sense of the word. Bearing no lofty ambience, the steady unforgiving bassline takes center stage, the chords being the glue that binds, and the vocal flourishes are the icing on the cake. Close your eyes and you're at the Shelter, NYC – open them and you are at the Panorama Bar in Berlin. Very fitting stuff!

Track A2 serves up "1000 Knives", which delves into the world of pure Deep Tech-House. A firm and distinguished bassline, powerful drums and eclectic YMO-style synthesizers truly define this modern robust and unrelenting piece that possesses a very multi-genre attitude.

Multi-talented Canadian electronic producer Aschka needs no introduction to the Ibadan ideology. Realizing her 4th and 5th co-productions with Jerome Sydenham, Aschka does not sheer away from the task at hand. On “Persephone” they continue weaving a sophisticated yet illustrious tapestry of sound. Diving deep, the grainy organ grind comes to life encompassed with the simple yet effective guitar lick. The NY style House drums and the sporadic hypnotic vocal embellishments all bring “Persephone” to a most deep fruition.

Last but not least "R Number" rears itself and shakes off its forefather sounds of Detroit and NY, Chicago and Germany to become the free independent bastard child in this no holds barred underground "literal Nu-Tech-House" stomper. Not for the faint at heart.
